2 October 2008 A bit of bad news today - Dylan's heavy side-project Animal Law is officially no more. Dylan asked us to thank anyone who came out to a show and/or bought a cassette and apologize to all who were looking forward to more from this group. We're sorry to report the news, but apparently there is a stirring within the rubble. Nothing much to talk about, but we will let you know as soon as something more concrete comes about.
8 September 2008 There wasn't much to say, but here we are, back from the dead with a new office (much better views, thank you) and a new show to announce - Dylan Posa And Three Cheers For One Dead Man will play a 17 and over early show at Beat Kitchen on Sept. 28th with Awesome Color and Mass Shivers. We like all-ages shows, because the younger the crowd, the crazier the crowd. So, come on out and have a good time for once! Show starts at 8:30 and costs $10 - Awesome Color are coming a long way. If you want a reminder, check the front page again, and send an email. We won't be mentioning it here again, as we will undoubtedly have some other bit of news soon.
16 May 2008 Well, sorry for the weird wormhole we seem to have fallen in - things were current, and now they're not. I'm not sure why, although we wouldn't doubt that reading Philip K. Dick short stories didn't help things. So, we've updated the gig diary (again) but we don't have the set lists anymore. Any help from the online community would be appreciated - we know there are a few collectors out there! We'll save the show announcements for a later date. It's such a relief that we're actually updating that to add any more would be to tempt fate. Plus we've been on the phone to customer support for the better part of the night, and I think we all need to get some sleep. Or at least play a few more hands of internet poker. No real money!
12 February 2008 This is exciting - tomorrow, yes tomorrow, Three Cheers For One Dead Man loads their equipment into a local studio to record some tunes! They haven't told us where it is (probably afraid we'll camp out), but we await the results with baited breath. And in the meantime, Dylan's side project Animal Law continues a modest live schedule with a couple dates - Feb 17th at local Polish bar The Empty Bottle and March 7th at the exotic and strange Hotti Biscotti. I think we heard them talking about recording, too, which is good because none of us owns a tape player anymore. I mean, who puts out tapes?!?27 December 2007 Almost 2008 and we've got a couple shows to talk about. First, Dylan Posa And Three Cheers For One Dead Man will be playing Schuba's on January 13th. We'll be supporting Miracle Condition, which is Mark Shippy (ex-US Maple) and his cohorts. They're quite excellent. Also on the bill is Locks, which is Theo. He's in a bunch of stuff, all quite good. He also practices right down the hall, so we know what's he's up to. You'll like it. Before that, there's another chance to catch Animal Law, the "heavy band". That's January 8th at Ronny's. February will bring more Animal Law shows and some recording from 3cf1dm. About time, I say!12 November 2007 More details surrounding the Fireside Bowl show - the other two bands are Shred Aquarium (featuring Theo and Donny from A Tundra) and Racecar Melody (who we've linked to previously - ah, here it is again). Show starts at 8:30, and 3cf1dm is the headliner!Later! 5 November 2007
Well, we're back on track here at HQ and we're pleased to announce a couple shows! First off, we take this show on the road with a show in Bloomington IN at Bear's Place on November 16th. Then, we come back to Chicago on November 18th and play the fabled Fireside Bowl. Then, in December, Animal Law play the Empty Bottle on the 16th. Yes, it's all terribly exciting, and we can't wait to meet everyone all over again. More details to follow - check back soon!
22 July 2007 3cf1dm is taking a break to learn some tunes with the horn section, but Dylan is debuting a new group he's been working with for a little while now. The name is Animal Law, and it's a pretty different beast. As the Pie once put it, "very 'eavy, very 'umble". So, with all modesty in place, here are the particulars:Friday July 27th The Flowershop 2159 W. 21st Place (that's in Pilsen) All ages 9PM $6 suggested donation It's gonna be loud... 6 July 2007 You may remember a while back when we said Elanor Leskiw from Mucca Pazza was joining us for a show. Well, she is a permanent member, and is now joined by a second horn player - ladies and gentlemen, we give you David Levine on the tenor sax. We will be taking off most of July to learn a few numbers with Dave, then hitting the road in August to try these tunes out on some folks and see what sticks. But who are we kidding - all of it sticks! The only thing we know is that this band is a force to be reckoned with. You better watch yourselves!7 June 2007 Side projects - inevitable, aren't they? Well, here's one you might be interested in - Saturday June 9th Dylan will be playing drums with a doom metal type thing at Enemy (or Enemy for friends). This will be the first performance of the core group that has been slowly (emphasis on slow) evolving into...Animal Law. You may have heard rumblings of this mythical group (featuring Jason Soliday, Mark Solotroff and others) and here is a chance to see them in the pupa stage of their birth. And it's only a suggested donation of $5. 8 PM, be there or regret it.29 May 2007 So you missed the record store gig, so what. Come out the The Note on June 3rd (a Sunday) and check out Paper Airplanes, playing with the 3cf1dm experience. It starts at 10PM and costs some amount of money that will totally be worth it, LOL.8 May 2007 Yet another show! This one is at a record store (Permanent Records) and it's free and it's at 8PM and you can hear some of the new material - like maybe one song and the cover they've been giggling about for the past month. Anyway, they play with Tirra Lirra and A Tundra and the address is 1914 W. Chicago. See you at the Miscellaneous 'P' section!8 March 2007 Another show! This one is on Monday the 12th of March at Subterranean with +/- (ex-Versus). The band will be joined by Elanor Leskiw, who usually can be seen tromboning with Mucca Pazza! She may even let you stand close to the spit valve.17 February 2007 We're heading out on the road soon - February 22nd to be exact. We're playing with the mighty Rescue at Palmer Hall in Muskegon MI. It's only a few hours away; why don't you come with? There's some room in the back of the van and we'll even let you have control of the radio for a while.
23 January 2007
This lineup (Mach III if you're keeping score) is finally ready! The previously bass-playing Eorl Scholl is now on drums and we've recruited Justin Wexler (ex-Stillwell) {not the actor [or maybe it is?]} on bass. The show is on February 2nd at Ronny's (2205 California). It is, unfortunately, 21 and over and starts at 9 PM. Also, Dylan recently went back to the studio for some recording with The Butchershop Quartet. Keep an ear out for the results. Finally, all you indie buyers have a place to go to buy this new 7" - Redline Distribution is now stocking the debut. Hotcha! 12 December 2006
Our empire is expanding! As of now (or soon after now) the new 7", plus the CD EPs, will be availabvle at Laurie's Planet Of Sound in beautiful Lincoln Square. Stop by if you're in the neighbourhood and complete your library.
27 November 2006
No one can blame you for staying away from the message board - it's pretty choked full of spam and we're working full-time to ban the worst, but you know how it goes. It's like Hydra - hello, Marvel Comics? Just a note to say that the band is in rehearsals with yet another new lineup, so look out for some shows in 2007. Take care of yourselves until then.
24 October 2006
The wait is finally over - you may now purchase a testament to the power, dazzle and general likability of Dylan Posa And Three Cheers For One Dead Man! Northern Varieties (who don't have a website now, but should in the near future) has released a single, Executive Shirts '79 b/w The Nairu Revolt. For now, this can be purchased at either Reckless Records location in Chicago or ordered online at www.reckless.com, but plans are underway to offer the tunes digitally, as well as other brick and mortar shops. If only we could figure out how to get the computer to recognize 13/8! That's a music nerd joke, and it's not that funny, so don't worry about it. Just order that 7" already!
18 September 2006 29 August 2006
Some
bad news for you - the South Union show was cancelled. I guess we'll
just see you at The Note. It'll be like Harlem in the '50s! 22 August 2006
Hey
hey! We got another couple shows for ya! First up, Mr. Posa will be
performing solo on September 1st at South Union Arts with
recently-relocated Jessica Skolnik and Greed. Jessica plays minimal
minor-key classical piano things and Greed features Eleanor Balsan and
her screaming friends. Then, Three Cheers For One Dead Man join Mr.
Posa at the Note on September 22nd with Weird Weeds and Kamakaze
Hearts. Emails will be sent with more detailed information. Oh yes,
emails will be sent! 31 July 2006
No shows, but we're announcing a Dylan Posa-related release that just hit the shelves. As you may or may not know, Cheer-Accident
has been documenting almost every noise they make from the very
beginning of their existence. These archives have been raided in
various guises, but the most obvious of them has been the series
'Variations On A Goddamn Old Man'. They look the same, but are very
different inside, so it's with special pleasure that we found out about
a new one. It's known by the same title, but with the designation
"2.1". Ostensibly, this numbering is based on it not being on a
nationally-distributed label, but it doesn't matter because it's
awesome! An amazing look behind the scenes of one of America's
most-beloved collection of oddballs, this disc is pretty bizarre. It
can be purchased online at Reckless.com or at the physical location of either Reckless Records, or just shoot us an email. Let us know what you think!
8 July 2006
Something
out of the ordinary on this update - keep reading! First, though, is a
show with 3cf1dm at the Hideout on July 14th. That's a Friday at 10PM,
and it's $8. We'll be playing with ST Monroe and Alison Breitman. Then,
on July 24th, I'll be playing an improvised set with some of Chicago's
finest. Paul Velat. Mike Hagedorn, Rotten Milk and I will be making
shit up at 3030, which is on 2830 N. Milwaukee. It will start at 9 PM
and perhaps cost money, I don't know yet. This promises to be one of the weirder shows you will see this year. 7 June 2006 So, 6/6/06 passed with relatively no ill effects (although we experienced mild disappointment with the Sarah Silverman movie) and much Slayer listened to. We've also been inundated with requests from poker sites to be added to the message board lately, but I think we'll play hard-to-get for a while longer. Anyway, we've got another show to announce. Dylan Posa and Three Cheers For One Dead Man (or 3cf1dm) will be performing at Beat Kitchen on Wednesday June 14th with Young People and Cellmates. The show starts at 10:00 and 3cf1dm goes on first. It's 18 and over, with an $8 cover in advance and $10 at the door. Again, with the summing up: Dylan Posa and Three Cheers For One Dead Man Beat Kitchen (2100 W. Belmont) 10:00, $8 in advance $10 at the door 9 May 2006 Okay, here goes: just added to the 13th is Lark, a solo performance by Theo. He's been doing some interesting things with his various ensembles, and he's one of the most underrated drummers in the city, so do come out for that. Also, there's a last-minute show that appeared on our calendar coming up. On Thursday the 11th, Dylan Posa and Three Cheers For One Dead Man will be appearing at South Union Arts (again) along with a screening of Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music. Please visit www.rightrightright.com for details on this documentary about the christian rock scene. Take it from us (who are practicing atheists), it's a good film. The show starts at 8:00 and suggested donation is $6. So, we've got a busy weekend... 29 April 2006 The band has more shows in the works, but for now we'd like to invite you to a solo Dylan Posa show. He'll be appearing at Hotti Biscotti on May 13th (a Saturday). The place is at 3545 W. Fullerton and the show starts at 10:30 PM. It is a bar, so you have to be 21, but there's no cover, so you don't have to have any money. Also on the bill is a new local combo by the name of Soul Roach and another as-yet-unnamed act. Possibly juggling? You'll never know until you come! Or, read about it later. By the way, at 8:00 there's a free movie about Fred Frith. Plus maybe lasagna. 22 March 2006 Now's your chance - we've been going on and on about the band this and the group that, but now you get to see for yourselves. As part of a celebration of the history of Skin Graft Records, Dylan Posa & Three Cheers For One Dead Man will be performing live! Friday April 7th at 8:PM at South Union Arts Centre (1352 S. Union Ave. in Chicago) - an all-ages show, plus donation to get in; there are no excuses not to be there. As if you need any more incentive, Mark and Rob will be there in person! South Union Arts Place 1352 S. Union Ave. 8 March 2006 Well, let's re-introduce the band. Again, Eorl Scholl on bass. Still, Dan Sullivan on guitar (no keyboards any more!). But, Shannon O'Brien on drums. Shannon comes to us via a construction gig, and his drumming is as solid as his caulking. He also has a side-project that he'll tell you about when he's good and ready to, but not before. Also, we told you the website was being re-designed and you didn't believe us - now look at you! Egg on your faces! Ha! You can thank Mike Johnson, who runs an excellent label called Failed Experiment. He also has a cool doggie. 15 January 2006 Time sure flies...seems like only a few months ago we were announcing the band like it was a sure thing. Anyway, if you hadn't heard (and the walls are a little thin), we're trying out drummers. We did manage to get Brian into the studio before he left to tour with The Coogs, and we're whipping a couple nuggets into shape. Almost there - can you feel it? Some people say they like the second song because you can dance to it! As if that's a good thing! We like it because it has accents offset by one on both sides of the downbeat, etc. 13 December 2005 We have another new release for you. It's called Thirty Seconds Over Casio and it's a bit of a departure for those of you who have been following Dylan's solo career. Perhaps even some of you who know him personally may be surprised at the content. This one is one eighteen minute tape piece, made up primarily of found sounds. It's pretty noisy and will definitely clear the room next time your party goes on too long. However, you may also be surprised at the way it's put together; not merely a collection of abrasive noises, but composed in sections that bring you through many different landscapes. You may purchase it, as always, from Reckless Records in Chicago, either by visiting them in person or going through the website. Let us know what you think!
17 November 2005 We were looking around at each other yesterday, wondering which one of us forgot to post, and I guess the answer is "everyone". The good news, though, is we all got health insurance. Still, no news for a while - that sucked. The band recently went into "the studio" (really the guy across the hall with a computer) and knocked out a few tunes. One or two of them will probably be whipped into shape before too long. Also, this might be the final hour of this particular web design - so mourn early and mourn often. We can't wait to see what the upgrade will look and act like. Stop in soon! 5 September 2005 Disbelief - it's really the only response to what has been happening in New Orleans, a town that not too long ago we called 'home'. (Uncomfortable segue) There's another solo show, this time at The Black Spot. (For more detailed information go here and choose 'Misc Clubs' at the top). It's all ages, and it starts at 7:00. The band is not quite ready to make its debut, but they are sounding shit-hot. 6 August 2005 Those of you in Chicago can go down to Reckless Records (either location) and pick up your copy of Dumb Terminals in person. It's filed under Cheer-Accident, in case you have trouble finding it. Others will have to order it from the website, which is a very painless procedure. 27 July 2005 Ladies & gentlemen, the band: Brian Knukowski on drums. You know him from Big'n, Check Engine, Haymarket Riot and The Cougars. Dan Sullivan on guitar and keyboards. You know him from reading his name backwards. And Eorl on bass. You know him from any number of shows you've been to in the last ten years. Things are still in the pupa stage, but expect this rockin' teenage combo to appear very soon at a sock hop or viper's den near you. 8 June 2005 Another show - this time with local favourites Fast Product and, fresh from their comedy tour with David Alan Grier, The American Pringles (hell, yeah). They are celebrating their record release and with the cover paid, you receive a copy of said record. So, there are many reasons to go to this show. At the Hideout, Friday June 17th, 10:00. See you there. 5 May 2005 Most of us are now living in Chicago. And there's a show, too (Go see the message board, really. It's all there). It's funny how things work when you have friends. Speaking of friends, anybody want a temporary roommate? |
